Udaipur (Rajasthan) [India], August 21 (ANI): The birth anniversary of folk deity Sagasji Bavji is being celebrated with devotion and religious fervour in Udaipur, the city of lakes. Special religious programmes are being organised at the Sagasji Bawji Raj Temple located in Sarv Ritu Vilas, Udaipur, on the occasion.

As part of the celebrations, Sagasji Bavji has been adorned in an attractive Rajkumar (princely) shringar. The temple premises have been decorated with colourful flowers and lighting, while a large number of devotees have arrived to offer prayers. Long queues of men and women have been seen at the temple since early morning.

Temple priest Prakash Dashora said that Sagasji Bavji was the crown prince of Maharana Raj Singh and had died an untimely death due to a royal conspiracy.

“Sagasji Bawji Maharana Raj Singh ke yuvraj the. Kisi raj shadayantra mein inko akaal mrityu prapt hui thi,” Dashora said.

Devotees are offering prayers and seeking the blessings of Sagasji Bavji for happiness and prosperity. The temple premises have been reverberating with devotional chants, creating a spiritual atmosphere during the celebrations.

Sagasji Bavji is considered an important centre of faith in Udaipur, with devotees visiting the temple with the belief that their wishes are fulfilled.

The temple also has a connection with local politics, with several leaders contesting elections from Udaipur traditionally visiting the shrine and seeking blessings.

The historic temple, located in the city, is believed to date back to the era of the Maharanas, and the birth anniversary of Sagasji Bavji has been celebrated here for several years. (ANI)
