New Delhi [India], October 9 (ANI): After the Supreme Court objected to restrictions imposed in Delhi ahead of the October 10 protests, the Congress Party on Friday emphasised that the party will fight every battle with full strength and will ensure that citizens get their rights.
In a post on X, the party said that 57 metro stations are being closed in Delhi, trains are being stopped, and roads are being blocked with barricades everywhere, which is causing a lot of trouble for the citizens.
“Today, regarding this very trouble of the citizens, Congress Law Department Head and MP @DrAMSinghvi ji reached the Supreme Court. During this time, representatives of the Youth Congress were also present there,” it said.
The Supreme Court on Friday objected to restrictions imposed in Delhi ahead of the October 10 protests that could disrupt the normal lives of citizens, particularly those who have no intention of joining the ongoing demonstrations.
The Court said Metro and train services cannot be completely stopped and asked authorities to reconsider such restrictions in a proportionate manner.
The bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and comprising Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana also clarified that the present proceedings primarily concern restrictions affecting the movement of ordinary citizens and public transport and not the broader right to protest.
“We have serious concerns about this. Our concern is not about the protesters, or about the authorities, but about hundreds and thousands of commuters in Delhi for their livelihood, children and senior citizens. We are talking about common citizenry. They should not be disturbed. Everybody doesn’t have a car or facilities,” the CJI said.
Meanwhile, Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda alleged that several of party leaders and MPs had been placed under house arrest in Delhi amid heightened security arrangements, accusing the BJP-led government of suppressing the movement for free and fair elections.
Hooda said he had been placed under house arrest at his official residence in Delhi along with fellow MPs and hundreds of party leaders and workers, alleging that police barricading was being used to prevent the ongoing protest against the Election Commission.

In a post on X, Hooda said, “Today, at my official residence in Delhi, along with fellow MP Jayprakash Ji, MP Varun Mulana Ji, MP Satpal Brahmachari Ji, MP Karmbir Bauddh Ji, and hundreds of leaders-workers, I too have been placed under house arrest with police barricading. We will not allow the ongoing struggle against the Election Commission turning into a puppet of the BJP and for fair elections to be suppressed by police force.”
Congress MP Pramod Tiwari also criticised the security arrangements in the national capital, alleging that the government was attempting to undermine democratic institutions and restrict citizens’ voting rights.
Speaking to ANI, he said, “It’s a straightforward strategy: the country is being looted, democracy is being destroyed. The Constitution is being murdered by one person, and that person’s name is PM Modi, who is the Prime Minister of the country. He has also taken control of the Election Commission. We will say that the Constitution must be protected, democracy must be saved, and the right of every person to vote at least once must be safeguarded.”
Targeting the restrictions imposed in Delhi in view of the march, Tiwari said the Opposition would continue its protest despite attempts to stop it.
“Dictators always do this, and dictators think that what they have done is the end… Their job is to stop us; our job is to move forward,” he said. (ANI)
