New Delhi [India], October 27 (ANI): CPI(ML) Liberation General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya on Tuesday welcomed the ongoing public hearings being held across the national capital to give voice to affected citizens and announced that public agitations would escalate.

Speaking at the ‘Vote Adhikar Jeene Ka Adhikar’ Jan Sunwai (Public Hearing) held at Trilokpuri Block 20 in New Delhi, Bhattacharya rejected the Election Commission’s assertion that all recent decisions regarding electoral roll updates were taken collectively by the full panel.

“They’re now pressuring all the election commissioners to say that everything was decided together. So if everything was decided together, why did they file complaints 14 times in 10 months? These things can’t be hidden from anyone anymore. Maybe you did it alone, but you wrongly removed 416 people across four booths. That is completely clear,” he said.

“Whether you did it alone or together, you did something wrong. We need to fix the mess that was made. That’s why I think these public hearings happening all over Delhi are a really good thing, and we will also hold a rally on November 1. We will also publicly bring up that impeachment,” he added.

He further emphasised that the traders’ community may also launch protests, alleging that the authorities have “declared war” on them, who are already facing severe financial distress.

“The traders will also hold a rally. They’ve declared war on all the traders in Delhi in the name of removing encroachments. The traders are suffering,” he said.

Furthermore, he held the Modi government responsible for the loss faced by the traders, pointing out that decisions to halt metro services, stop train traffic, and erect heavy police barricades have directly impacted them.

“As far as harming the business is concerned, the government caused it. Who told you to stop the trains? Who told you to stop the metro? Who told you to put up barricades? If the protest had been peaceful at Jantar Mantar, there would be no harm. So whatever loss the traders had to suffer, the only ones responsible for it are the Modi government and Amit Shah,” he said.

The remarks come amid the Opposition INDIA bloc’s ongoing protests against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and its allegations of irregularities and voter deletions.

The Congress has planned a public impeachment-style proceeding against CEC Gyanesh Kumar on October 30, followed by a ‘Dilli Chalo’ march and a public gathering at Ramlila Maidan on November 1. (ANI)
