Guwahati (Assam) [India], July 10 (ANI): The Assam government is set to present its Budget for 2026-27 in the Legislative Assembly on Friday, with the ruling BJP expressing confidence that the financial blueprint will accelerate the state’s development, fulfil key electoral commitments and lay a strong foundation for long-term growth.

Friday marks the fifth day of the Assam Assembly Budget Session, during which the state Budget is likely to be presented. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma arrived at the Assembly ahead of the proceedings.

Ahead of the Budget presentation, the Assam Chief Minister’s Office posted on X, “#AssamBudget2026 is here. A vision for a stronger, more prosperous and future-ready Assam.”

In a separate post on X, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Team Assam is ready to present the #AssamBudget2026.”

The Budget comes at a time when the state government has sought to project Assam as an emerging investment destination. A day earlier, the Assembly also witnessed the tabling of six Bills aimed at improving the ease of doing business and boosting tourism.

Speaking ahead of the Budget, Assam Minister Bimal Borah said the recent visit of the Japanese Prime Minister had strengthened expectations of greater foreign investment in the state, particularly in its industrial sector.

“The visit of the Japanese Prime Minister to Assam is a very good and encouraging visit for us and for the entire nation. The people of Assam are also eagerly waiting for the results of this visit, as Assam is now moving much faster to develop our industrialisation ecosystem. If Japan and other neighbouring countries are willing to invest in various programmes to develop our industrial ecosystem, it is definitely good news for us…”

On the Budget, Assam Minister Biswajit Daimary said it would reflect the commitments made by the BJP government and focus on schemes aimed at the state’s overall development.

“This budget incorporates the promises made by our Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, as well as the commitments outlined in the manifesto. It will address various schemes aimed at the development of Assam. While many such development initiatives are already underway, others are yet to be completed…”

BJP MLA Arup Kumar Dey said the Budget would provide clarity on sector-wise allocations and outline the government’s priorities across key departments. “Budget will be presented for every department and office. We will learn the details of the allocations made for each department–specifically, what the government plans to do regarding sports, culture, and the handloom and textile sectors–only after the budget is passed today. I am hopeful that following the passage of this budget, Assam will envision a new future…”

Expressing similar optimism, BJP MLA Pulak Gohain said he expected the Budget to create fresh opportunities for the state.

“Today our Finance Minister will present the state’s budget. I hope that this budget will bring new hope for Assam and open new paths for development.”

BJP MLA Bhupen Kumar Bora said the Budget was expected to translate the government’s vision into a long-term development agenda for the state.

“We hope that under the budget our government presents today, the BJP government will move forward for the next five years with regard to our Chief Minister’s vision… The people of Assam have given the BJP the kind of majority this time, so their expectations must certainly be there too. I am confident that our Finance Minister and Chief Minister together will present a budget that will help build a strong foundation for the state in the coming five years.”

The Budget is expected to outline the government’s fiscal priorities for the year ahead while detailing allocations for key sectors, including infrastructure, industry, agriculture, education, healthcare and social welfare, against the backdrop of the state’s push for higher investment and sustained economic growth.
