New Delhi [India], July 5 (ANI): The Central Management Committee meeting of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) is set to be held in New Delhi from July 19 with around 300 representatives from across the country expected to participate in the two-day deliberations.
The meeting, which was originally scheduled to take place in Ayodhya, was postponed following the alleged theft of offerings from the donation boxes at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple. It has now been rescheduled and will be held at Chhatarpur in the national capital.
According to sources, Champat Rai, who continues to serve as the International Vice President of the VHP, has also been invited to attend the meeting. However, it is not yet clear whether he will participate in the two-day event.
The meeting is expected to deliberate on key organisational matters and review the VHP’s ongoing activities and future programmes.
This comes as the SIT is probing the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram Temple.
While eight accused have been arrested and taken into custody, the members of the Faizabad Bar Association filed a police complaint earlier today, demanding an FIR against International Vice President of VHP and General Secretary of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, Champat Rai, along with Trust member Anil Mishra and temple administration assistant Gopal Rao.
Champat Rait and Anil Mishra have tendered resignations from their positions in the Trust.
Meanwhile, the state government on July 1 granted a 15-day extension to SIT to complete its investigation. The extension has been given to enable the SIT to widen the scope of its probe and conduct a comprehensive inquiry into all aspects of the case.
An FIR was registered on June 25 after the SIT submitted the preliminary report on June 23, and eight accused were arrested.
Subsequently, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust General Secretary Champat Rai and former trustee Anil Mishra resigned, taking moral responsibility for alleged misappropriation of donations at the Ayodhya Ram Temple, hours after police arrested all eight people named in the FIR.
Ayodhya Police is likely to interrogate the accused currently in custody on Sunday. (ANI)
