Noida (Uttar Pradesh) [India], November 2 (ANI): Four suspected robbers were arrested following an encounter with police near Sector 63 in Noida, officials said.
Following the incident in Noida, officers stationed at the Sector 62 intersection attempted to flag down four individuals riding two motorcycles. When the suspects fled and turned their vehicles around, a pursuit ensued into a local green belt.
Detailing the initial interception, Central Noida Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Praveen Ranjan Singh stated, “Following instructions from the Gautam Buddha Nagar police, the Sector 63 police station team was conducting checks at the Sector 62 intersection tonight. Four individuals were spotted approaching on two motorcycles. When the police attempted to stop them for a check, the riders turned their motorcycles around. The police pursued them, and the suspects eventually entered a green belt area.”
The suspects opened fire after being cornered, prompting police to return fire in self-defence.
Elaborating on the casualties and the gang’s criminal background, Singh added, “Finding themselves cornered by the police, the suspects opened fire. In self-defence, the police returned fire. As a result, two individuals identified as Vikas and Rajesh sustained gunshot wounds. One of them is a resident of Delhi, while the other resides in Noida. Both criminals have approximately two dozen cases registered against them”
Four suspects were ultimately arrested following a subsequent search operation. The police revealed that the gang targeted passengers by posing as taxi providers, offering lifts before robbing commuters and abandoning them in isolated areas.
“The two suspects were apprehended during a search operation in the area. In total, four suspects have been arrested today. Their modus operandi involved hiring a taxi and picking up passengers under the pretext of offering a lift; they would then rob the passengers and abandon them in a secluded location. The injured suspects have been sent to a hospital for medical treatment. Further legal proceedings are underway. Through detailed interrogation, the entire gang has been exposed,” DCP Praveen Ranjan Singh added. (ANI)
