Indore (Madhya Pradesh) [India], July 23 (ANI): Mother of Raja Raghuvanshi, Uma Raghuvanshi, on Thursday welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision cancelling the bail granted to Sonam Raghuvanshi, a key accused in the alleged murder of her husband during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, saying that “truth has triumphed” and expressing hope that her son would ultimately receive complete justice.
Expressing relief over the apex court’s order, Uma Raghuvanshi said the verdict had restored her faith in the judicial process.
“I am satisfied. Deep in my heart, I feel very good today that my son has received justice, and truth has triumphed. A mother’s faith has won. The hope with which a mother sat waiting for the Supreme Court–that hope has been rekindled today, and a mother’s faith has been restored… the sentencing is still pending. Moving forward, my son will definitely get complete justice because a mother has faith, and truth will prevail in the future as well,” she told ANI.
She further said that she had complete faith in the Supreme Court and maintained that Raja was innocent.
“The ruling given by the Supreme Court is right, and whatever happens moving forward will be good, because truth must win. My son was innocent; my Raja had no fault at all,” she added.
Raja Raghuvanshi’s brother, Sachin Raghuvanshi, thanked the Meghalaya government for challenging the bail order before the Supreme Court and appreciated Solicitor General Tushar Mehta for presenting the case.
“I express my sincere gratitude to the Meghalaya Government and the Shillong Government. They realised the mistake that occurred on their part in this case… Going all the way to the Supreme Court, they fought to get justice for this decision. Tushar Mehta Ji understood this case with his heart,” Sachin said.
Seeking strict punishment for the accused, he added, “Today, the justice we received after five months–we just want that, at the very least, she should be sentenced to life imprisonment till her last breath… Why two weeks’ time was given to surrender, we don’t know. But she (Sonam) will have to surrender.”
Another brother of Raja, Vipin Raghuvanshi, also welcomed the order, saying it marked the victory of truth.
“Today Sonam Raghuvanshi’s bail has been cancelled by the Supreme Court… within two weeks, Sonam Raghuvanshi will have to surrender. Because today, truth has triumphed and falsehood has lost,” he said.
Vipin also sought a fast-track trial and said, “I just want their trial to run on a fast-track basis and for the accused to be sentenced as soon as possible… A Narco test investigation is very crucial because there are facts that were hidden that can come out.”
The Supreme Court on Thursday cancelled the bail granted to Sonam Raghuvanshi, observing that her continued release at this stage could hinder the ongoing trial.
A bench of Justices MM Sundresh and PB Varale set aside the bail orders passed in her favour and directed her to surrender within two weeks. The Court also said she would be at liberty to seek bail afresh if the trial is not concluded within six months.
The Meghalaya government had challenged the bail order, arguing that the allegations against Sonam were grave. According to the prosecution, she conspired with three accomplices to murder her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in Meghalaya after their marriage. The apex court held that the courts below had erred in granting bail in view of the seriousness of the allegations and the stage of the trial. (ANI)
