Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], August 3 (ANI): Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led Telangana government, accusing it of failing to fulfil its promises on employment, governance and irrigation, while also criticising Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy over his reported remarks about engineers.
Addressing a press conference, KTR alleged that both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had “deceived the youth” and claimed that the government’s promised Job Calendar had failed to deliver meaningful employment opportunities. He questioned the status of the employment commitments made before the Assembly elections.
“Senior Congress leader and the country’s Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, had given a statement, promising the youth of Telangana that as soon as the Congress government wins here, two lakh youth will be given government jobs in the first year itself. Today, 32 months have passed, and more than 50% of the five-year opportunity given to the Congress party has passed. Till date, the Congress government has given only ten thousand jobs in the government sector and even in the private sector, employment is decreasing,” he told ANI.
Referring to the recent reported suicide attempt by an unemployed youth who allegedly left behind a letter questioning the government’s unfulfilled promises, KTR said the incident reflected the growing frustration among unemployed young people. He appealed to students and job seekers not to resort to taking their own lives and assured that the BRS would prioritise filling government vacancies if it returned to power.
KTR also criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, alleging that he had remained silent over the Chief Minister’s reported remarks describing engineers as “criminal waste.” He said the comments had deeply hurt the engineering community and questioned whether engineers contributing to infrastructure development in Telangana and abroad deserved such criticism.
Highlighting major infrastructure projects, KTR said engineers had played a key role in constructing Hyderabad’s flyovers, the Command Control Centre and major irrigation pump houses. He asserted that their contributions should be respected rather than ridiculed.
“That is why yesterday a child named Venu from the constituency of the Deputy Chief Minister wrote a suicide note saying that this letter should reach Rahul Gandhi. Today, he is fighting a battle of life and death. I want to ask Rahul a direct question. Your Chief Minister, whom you nominated and installed here, repeatedly insults the youth of Telangana, yet you don’t raise your voice, not even once. When he says that Telangana engineers are criminal waste, you don’t raise your voice,” he said.
The former minister further alleged that the Congress government had failed to meet its promise of providing two lakh jobs and claimed that fewer than 10,000 jobs had been filled since it assumed office. He also alleged that around 7,000 IT jobs had been lost under the present administration and demanded an explanation from the government.
On irrigation, KTR accused the government of failing to utilise Godavari waters effectively during the monsoon season, alleging that valuable water had flowed into the sea while farmers were deprived of irrigation. He defended the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project and questioned the government’s understanding of its operations.
KTR also alleged irregularities in the government’s handling of the Hyderabad Metro project and claimed that every major scheme under the present administration was accompanied by a scandal. He further accused the Congress government of harassing BRS leaders through politically motivated actions.
Calling for a 15-day Assembly session, KTR said the BRS would raise issues concerning unemployed youth, students, farmers and governance inside the legislature. He urged the Congress government to fulfil the promises it had made before the elections and address the concerns of the state’s unemployed youth.
“So, I want to ask Rahul, brother, you come to ask for votes. Today, when the youth is questioning you, requesting you, where are you missing?… When will you come and fully implement your job calendar here. You must tell us this or else we will come to Delhi with Telangana youth, and sit in front of your house just like you sat in front of the Prime Minister’s house,” he said. (ANI)
