Kohima (Nagaland) [India], November 3 (ANI): The Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO), along with presidents and secretaries of its federating units, inspected the landslide-affected area at Phesama on Tuesday and reviewed the ongoing restoration works being undertaken by contractors.
Speaking after the inspection, President SAYO Zasitsolie Beio said the organisation was satisfied with the progress of work, observing that nearly 80 per cent of the restoration work had been completed.
He said although blacktopping and other finishing works were yet to be undertaken, the organisation was hopeful that the road would be reopened soon. He also appealed to the district administration to consider the hardships faced by villagers and students due to the closure of the route, particularly as Phesama serves as an important exit route from Kisama.
Beio said the temporary alternate route had caused inconvenience to commuters and local residents. He urged the administration to look into the matter, especially with college and school students preparing for their final examinations.
Meanwhile, Phesama Youth Organisation, Ketouneio Zashumo highlighted the deteriorating condition of the alternate route, stating that even small and light vehicles were finding it difficult to pass through.
He said traffic congestion during morning rush hours was affecting school and college students, as well as office-goers, causing delays in reaching their respective destinations.
Kuotsu urged the contractors and those responsible for maintaining the road to expedite the repair works and make the route motorable at the earliest. He expressed hope that the necessary works would be completed by next week to ease the difficulties faced by commuters, particularly during peak morning and evening hours.
Contractor Ketouse Khamo, who was also present at the site, said that the public has been facing considerable hardship due to the landslide and that efforts are being made to complete the work at the earliest.
He expressed hope that the soil-moving work on his assigned stretch would be completed by Monday, while clarifying that the adjoining stretch was being handled by a different contractor.
The organisation called for the timely completion of the restoration works and early reopening of the road to ensure smoother movement of vehicles and minimise inconvenience to the public. (ANI)
