Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], July 5 (ANI): Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Saturday dismissed Congress leader Jairam Ramesh’s remarks on the BJP’s role in political defections, alleging that they were intended to create confusion among political parties and the public.

Speaking to ANI, Rao also asserted that the proposed “One Nation, One Election” legislation and the Women’s Reservation Bill would be passed by Parliament.

“The speculative comment by Jairam Ramesh on the BJP’s role in parties that are splitting is only a political statement intended to create confusion among political parties and the public. His wish that ‘One Nation, One Election’ and women’s reservation should not be passed in Parliament will remain only a wish — because it will be done,” he said.

The BJP leader alleged that the Congress was opposing women’s reservation and said voters would hold its Members of Parliament accountable.

“People have realised that their Members of Parliament are not supporting women’s reservation; they are opposing it. Therefore, they will be held responsible in future elections. These are important factors. It is not the spirit of the party but the will of the people that will compel MPs to support the government’s bill and decision in Parliament,” Rao said.

“Jairam Ramesh fears that nothing should be passed during Modi’s rule,” he added.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh had earlier alleged that the BJP was pursuing a “revenge politics” agenda aimed at securing a two-thirds majority to amend the Constitution.

“Despite many efforts, they didn’t get a two-thirds majority, and they’re now taking revenge. Their real motive is to change the Constitution of India. This is revenge politics. They’re splitting parties. But they’re not going to get a two-thirds majority. They’re very adept at playing psychological games. Their real motive is to change the Constitution of India. The purpose of crossing 400 was to be in a position to change the Constitution,” he alleged.

The Congress leader also said that people have come to believe that election results are “fixed in advance, saying, “People have come to believe that election results are fixed in advance… There is no doubt that our Constitution and our electoral system are under attack… If election results are predetermined, what is the point of holding elections?,” Jairam Ramesh added.

Commenting on the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament, Ramesh dismissed the all-party meeting convened by the government as a “formality” and said that the actual legislative agenda was decided elsewhere.

“An all-party meeting is a formality. The Defence Minister attends, gives a speech, listens, and then the agenda given for the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha by the Prime Minister’s and the Home Minister’s office is completely different. This all-party meeting has no meaning… We’re going into this Monsoon Session knowing that they will bring back the Delimitation Bill. They might bring back ‘One Nation, One Election’,” he said.

In both West Bengal and Maharashtra, political parties are seeing factions being made or a large section looking to join another political party. More recently, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has seen its MLAs and MPs break away from the Mamata Banerjee-led party and form their own bloc. The TMC Member of Parliament have claimed to have “merged” with the National Citizens Party (NCPI). Meanwhile, in Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena had multiple MPs and other leaders resign and joining the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) instead, in a repeat of the 2022 incident which originally split the Shiv Sena.
