Pune (Maharashtra) [India], June 30 (ANI): Special Public Prosecutor Advocate Ajay Misar on Monday said a Pune sessions court awarded capital punishment to Bhimrao Kambale after holding him guilty of raping and murdering a three-year-old girl in Maharashtra’s Nasrapur village.

“The accused Bhimrao Kamble is held guilty of all offences… The court was pleased to award capital punishment and has passed a 137-page judgement… The court has concluded that this is a very cold-blooded, well-planned murder… The court stated that when he is very thirsty for lust at the age of 65, such a person cannot be considered for any mercy, and ultimately, the capital punishment was awarded,” Misar told ANI.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Pune Rural, Sandeep Singh Gill said the court had awarded capital punishment after the case was investigated and tried on a fast-track basis.

“The Nasrapur rape and murder case happened on May 1 and the FIR was registered on May 2… The accused has been awarded capital punishment by the court. The court has specifically mentioned a word in the judgement called ‘societal conscious’… The public was given a promise that the case would be monitored on a fast track, and the same promise has been fulfilled… Today, we have this historic judgement where the accused has been given three death sentences in three different sections of POCSO and BNS,” Gill said.

On June 25, the Pune Court delivered a guilty verdict, affirming that the prosecution successfully proved all charges against the accused beyond a reasonable doubt.

Following the court’s conclusion that the accused is guilty under all relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Samhita, the proceedings moved toward the sentencing phase. After hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the complainant’s side, the court had scheduled the final sentencing decision for today.

Special Public Prosecutor Advocate Ajay Misar stated that the prosecution team prioritised the gravity of the offence throughout the trial.

“The case was placed for the final judgement today. The court delivered its verdict. In this judgment, the prosecution concluded that all the charges against the accused were proven beyond a reasonable doubt. The court concluded that the accused was guilty under all the sections of the IPC and declared him guilty,” said Misar.

To emphasise the demand for the maximum possible penalty, the prosecution cited 12 landmark Supreme Court judgments that discuss the necessity of capital punishment and the death penalty for heinous crimes involving minors.

“The prosecution cited 12 landmark Supreme Court judgments in court, which debated the need for capital punishment and the death penalty for such crimes, and the court agreed,” Advocate Misar noted regarding the judicial reception of their arguments. (ANI)
