New Delhi [India], October 1 (ANI): A Special NIA Court at Rouse Avenue granted a two-day transit remand of Harvinder Kumar alias Sonu to the Chandigarh NIA unit. He has been deported from the UAE. He is accused in a target-killing case of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Vikas Prabhakar, allegedly orchestrated by the Babbar Khalsa International. He has to be produced before an NIA Court at Chandigarh.
Special Judge (NIA) Prashant Sharma granted a 2-day transit remand of Harvinder Kumar to produce him before an NIA court at Chandigarh on Friday.
Harvinder was deported from the UAE on Thursday. He was arrested by the NIA soon after he arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport and produced before the court.
He is wanted in a case of the targeted killing of Vikas Prabhakar. This incident of April 2024, allegedly by the banned organisation Babbar Khalsa International, in Roop Nagar, Punjab.
Initially, an FIR was lodged at Amritsar, Punjab, under Section 302, etc. Subsequently, the case was transferred to the NIA by the Central Government. Thereafter, the case was registered afresh by the NIA on May 9, 2024.
The NIA moved an application seeking transit remand of Harvinder Kumar alias Sonu. He was operating from the UAE and allegedly provided logistical and financial support to the assailants.
Earlier, another UAE-based accused, Manveer Ram, was arrested on August 13, 2026. Manveer Ram, who was allegedly involved in supplying weapons used in the crime, was intercepted at Amritsar Airport and subsequently arrested by the NIA.
NIA said that the investigation has revealed that the conspiracy to eliminate Vikas Prabhakar was allegedly hatched by Germany-based BKI operatives Harjit Singh alias Laddi and Kulbeer Singh alias Sidhu.
The investigation has further established that Harwinder Kumar alias Sonu, while operating from the UAE, played a crucial role as a logistics provider and financer for the BKI operatives based abroad.
He acted as a recruiter and handler, arranged weapons and facilitated their delivery to the shooters involved in the killing of Vikas Prabhakar. He also received and transferred terror funds in connection with the conspiracy, acting on the directions of Harjit Singh and Kulbeer Singh, the agency said. (ANI)
