Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], August 26 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and property caused by the sudden and devastating floods in Nepal’s Rasuwa region, where the Bhote Koshi River witnessed a severe flash flood.
As per the release, he said that the loss of lives and widespread damage caused by the natural disaster were extremely tragic and a matter of deep concern. In this difficult time, the people and the government of Uttarakhand stand in solidarity with the affected families in Nepal.
The Chief Minister prayed for eternal peace for the departed souls and for the safety and well-being of all those affected by the disaster.
CM Dhami said that the relationship between India and Nepal goes far beyond that of two neighbouring countries. The two nations are bound by shared culture, traditions, faith, social ties and deep emotional bonds. Uttarakhand and Nepal, in particular, have shared centuries-old roti-beti relations. People on both sides have maintained strong family, social, cultural and trade ties for generations.
The Chief Minister said that the Kumaon region shares a special and close bond with Nepal. People in border areas, including Pithoragarh and Champawat, have historical, social and cultural ties with Nepal. Therefore, the tragedy in Nepal is being felt by the people of Uttarakhand as if a member of their own family were in distress, the release said.
He said, “Nepal’s pain is Uttarakhand’s pain, and in this hour of crisis, the people of Uttarakhand stand with their Nepali brothers and sisters with complete sensitivity and solidarity.” He also appreciated the efforts of security personnel, volunteers and local residents engaged in relief and rescue operations. The state government is closely monitoring the situation and is ready to extend all possible assistance whenever required.
The Chief Minister said that the geographical conditions of the Himalayan region make both countries vulnerable to natural disasters.
He expressed confidence that, under the leadership of the Nepal government and local administration, relief and rescue operations would be carried out effectively and that the affected people would receive assistance at the earliest, the release said.
CM Dhami, on behalf of the people of Uttarakhand, conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families in Nepal. He prayed for the safety of the affected people, the speedy recovery of the injured and the early restoration of normalcy in Nepal. (ANI)
