Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) [India], September 1 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Police arrested two men in connection with the alleged murder of a 17-year-old girl after she refused to marry one of them in Gwalior district, an official said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred on the night of August 30 and her body was found in bushes near Cancer Pahadiya under the Kampoo police station area in the district early in the morning on August 31. The accused have been identified as Ishan Khan and Arbaz Khan.
According to the family, the minor worked at a saree shop in the Naya Bazar area. She left for work around 9 am on August 30 but did not return home by 8 pm. The family asked the shopkeeper and he told the family that she had left much earlier; relatives searched for her and then the family lodged a missing person report at Kampoo police station around midnight.
City Superintendent of Police (CSP), Robin Jain, told ANI, “An incident came to light yesterday in which the dead body of a 17-year-old girl was found at Cancer Pahadiya. It was a serious matter; the police team immediately reached the spot, sent the body for post-mortem and called the forensic team there as well.”
During the investigation, the police came to know that a person named Ishan was harassing her. The police called Ishan for questioning and also recorded statements of the minor’s family members, CSP Jain said.
“Ishan told us that he had asked the minor to marry him, but she was refusing to marry him. He further said that he took the minor in his vehicle to convince her and then dropped her near a culvert outside her house. But when we checked the CCTV footage, we did not find any vehicle dropping her there at that time, which raised some suspicion,” the officer said.
He added that later accused Ishan was questioned strictly and he confessed to the crime.
“Ishan disclosed that he along with Arbaz, who is his maternal aunt’s son, forcibly took the girl in a car from near KRG College at around 9 pm, took her to Cancer Pahadiya and strangled her to death. They then threw her body from the car near Cancer Pahadiya and left the spot,” CSP Jain said.
The officer said that the police solved the case within 12 hours with the help of CCTV footage and the informant network.
“Both accused, Ishan Khan and Arbaz Khan, who are residents of Mahalgaon Gali No. 3 in Gwalior, have been taken into custody. Ishan was in contact with the girl, while Arbaz was involved in driving the vehicle and assisting in the incident. The vehicle used in the crime has also been seized,” Jain said.
He added that the police would interrogate the accused further to clarify the circumstances of the case, and necessary legal action would be taken accordingly. (ANI)
