Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], July 7 (ANI): In a heartwarming gesture that has drawn widespread appreciation, a man in Madhya Pradesh’s capital Bhopal arranged the remarriage of his widowed daughter-in-law and performed her ‘Kanyadaan’.

The wedding ceremony was held at a resort in the Kulukhedi area of Bhopal on Monday. The father-in-law took on the role traditionally performed by a bride’s parents and completed the marriage rituals himself.

According to the family, the woman’s husband had passed away some time ago after battling cancer. Following his son’s death, the man said the family decided to treat their daughter-in-law as their own daughter and help her begin a new life.

The woman’s father-in-law, Dinesh Vairagi told ANI, “It is our fortune that she was our daughter-in-law. She has always been a very good daughter-in-law, and our entire family decided that she should be remarried. Life is long, so today we have solemnised her marriage and performed her kanyadaan from our side.”

“I also want to give a message to society that if such a situation arises in any family, they should consider remarriage. We are very happy. We have accepted her as our daughter and are performing her kanyadaan,” he added.

The family’s decision drew praise from those present at the ceremony, who described the gesture as an example of compassion and progressive thinking that could help change societal attitudes towards widowed women.

The woman’s father, Rambabu Vairagi, said, “My daughter’s remarriage is being performed. May God bless everyone with in-laws like hers. They left no stone unturned and did far more than we could have expected. I could never have imagined that my relatives would arrange my daughter’s remarriage and perform her kanyadaan.”

“Our son-in-law passed away after battling cancer. Just a year later, my daughter’s father-in-law told us not to worry and said she was now his daughter and that he would arrange her remarriage. He fulfilled every word of that promise. He brought my daughter home, let her choose the gifts of her preference, and gave her everything accordingly,” Rambabu said.

Expressing his gratitude, he said he wished every family could have such compassionate people and thanked his daughter’s in-laws for giving her a new beginning in life. (ANI)
