Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], July 19 (ANI): A special cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will be held today at Jagdishpur, a Bhopal town formerly known as Islamnagar. The draft of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) bill is expected to be approved during the cabinet meeting.

Once cleared, the proposed draft for the UCC bill is expected to be introduced in the state assembly during the Monsoon Session, which would begin on July 20.

Necessary arrangements for the special cabinet meeting have been completed at the venue.

Earlier on Friday, addressing a gathering in Katni district, Mohan Yadav had stated that the bill would be given a nod at a special cabinet meeting to be held in Jagdishpur and then it would be introduced during the upcoming Monsoon Session of the state assembly.

“We are moving ahead with the principle of ‘One Nation, One Law’ in the upcoming Monsoon Session. Therefore, before taking this proposed legislation (UCC) to the Legislative Assembly for its passage, we will approve it in Jagdishpur, which was once the old capital of Bhopal state. Its name had been changed to Islampur by invaders, but it has now been restored to Jagdishpur. It is there that we will approve this bill (UCC),” CM Yadav said.

“When there should be one nation, one Constitution, one head and one flag, why should there be separate laws for Hindus and Muslims? ….Under the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC), only a person who has one marriage will have the legal right to reside in Madhya Pradesh,” the Chief Minister said.
