New Delhi [India], June 28 (ANI): A team of the Special Staff of Delhi Police’s Outer District on Sunday arrested a wanted chain snatcher following a brief exchange of fire in the national capital, during which the accused sustained a gunshot injury to his leg, police said.

The accused, identified as Chandan alias ‘Haddi’, was wanted in connection with around nine cases of chain snatching. A semi-automatic pistol, four empty cartridges and a scooter were recovered from his possession.

Speaking about the operation, DCP Outer District Vikram Singh said the accused was a habitual offender involved in multiple cases.

“A team of special staff from the Outer District has apprehended a chain snatcher. His name is Chandan, alias ‘Haddi’, who is primarily involved in chain snatching… He was wanted in connection with around nine cases of chain snatching,” DCP said.

Sharing details of the encounter and the recovery made during the operation, the DCP said the accused opened fire, prompting retaliatory action by the police.

“He was apprehended following a brief exchange of fire in which he sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. A semi-automatic pistol, four empty cartridges, and a scooter were recovered from him. A total of four rounds were fired, two by the police and two by the accused,” DCP added.

On Saturday, in a separate incident, Delhi Police busted a drug racket allegedly run by a family and recovered Rs 22 lakh in cash in the National Capital.

A police officer said that they have arrested all the members of the family and thereby busted the racket.

Akanksha Yadav, DCP North-West District, Delhi, told ANI, “On the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, we have seized large quantities of drugs in two separate cases. In the first case, a family (Paro, Usha, Kanta and Amit) from Jahangirpuri was selling drugs in the areas of Jahangirpuri, Bhalswa Dairy, and Mahindra Park, and was particularly targeting minors.”

“During the raid, we recovered Rs 22 lakh in cash, gold jewellery worth Rs 35 lakh, and silver jewellery worth Rs 7 lakh.We have arrested the entire family and busted this racket,” she added. (ANI)
