Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], August 22 (ANI): Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Saturday confirmed that six individuals, including the main accused, have been arrested in connection with the Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV) paper leak investigation.
Six people, including a professor and five students, of a private college in Durg district were arrested for allegedly being involved in the question paper leak of the government-run Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV) here, a senior police officer said on Saturday.
Addressing the media, the Chief Minister said, “Six individuals, including the prime accused, have been arrested in connection with the paper leak case, and the investigation is ongoing. If anyone else is found to be involved, action will be taken against them as well.”
The statement came after the joint team of police and cyber swung into action and launched an extensive probe in the paper leak case, police said.
Earlier today, DCP (Crime) Smruthik Rajanala said that the breach occurred ahead of the August 20 BSc Agriculture Entomology exam conducted by Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (IGKV). Investigators traced the leak to Bharti College in Durg.
“On the 20th, the case came to light at the Agricultural University, where the Controller of Examinations reported a suspected leak of the Entomology paper. Taking immediate cognisance of the incident, a joint team comprising the local police and the Crime Branch was formed to investigate. We obtained leads from students who had received the paper, revealing a connection to Bharti College in Durg, affiliated with the university,” he said.
The DCP elaborated, “A professor from the university was responsible for transporting the question paper from the university in a sealed envelope. He made a small hole at the bottom of the envelope, inserted an endoscopic camera to scan the entire paper, manually transcribed 15 questions, and sold these copied questions to students. We traced the case back to the students who had obtained the paper. In total, we have arrested six individuals: the professor and five students who received the paper,” he added.
Further, he said that during the court of investigation, the role of a college professor, Yogesh Sonkeshariya, came to light. Interestingly, the accused has used an endoscopy camera to leak the paper, he said.
The accused professor allegedly captured the questions by inserting an endoscopic camera in a sealed envelope, according to the police probe.
The investigation revealed that the professor was tasked with collecting the question paper from the university. He allegedly took the sealed envelope, made a small hole at the bottom, inserted an endoscopy camera, and scanned the entire paper. He then manually transcribed the content and copied 15 questions to sell to students.
The question paper of entomology was cancelled after the leak came to light on August 20, police said, adding that interrogation further revealed that the professor had leaked another paper, Plant Pathology, on August 7 using the same method.
The accused admitted that he had sold the paper for around Rs 11,000 and Rs 12,000. (ANI)
