Belagavi (Karnataka) [India], August 1 (ANI): Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP MP Jagadish Shettar on Saturday accused the Congress government in the state of failing to act against alleged irregularities in the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC), and urged it to immediately challenge the Cauvery water release order through legal means.
Addressing reporters in Athani town of Belagavi district, Shettar alleged that the state government had remained silent despite what he described as large-scale irregularities in KPSC recruitment.
He also questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his silence on the issue while raising concerns over examination-related irregularities at the national level.
“Rahul Gandhi is raising his voice against the NEET paper leak and corruption at the national level, but he and Congress leaders are silent on the irregularities in KPSC in Karnataka, where the Congress is in power,” Shettar said.
Alleging that deserving candidates were suffering because of the alleged irregularities, Shettar demanded action against those responsible.
“Lakhs of eligible and talented candidates are being deprived of job opportunities due to irregularities in KPSC. The state government has not taken any appropriate action against the KPSC chairman, members and officials facing allegations. The Congress government must clarify its stand on this,” he said.
On the Cauvery water-sharing dispute, the BJP leader said Karnataka was facing a severe shortage of water due to deficient rainfall and urged the state government to file an appeal against the order directing the release of water to Tamil Nadu.
“This year there has been a shortage of rainfall in the state, and there is a severe shortage of water in our reservoirs. When we ourselves are facing a drinking water shortage, we cannot release water to Tamil Nadu as per the authority’s directive. Tamil Nadu may need water for agriculture, but we are struggling to meet our own drinking water needs,” Shettar said.
He urged the Karnataka government to take immediate legal recourse.
“The state government should immediately take appropriate legal action and file an appeal against the authority’s order to release Cauvery water,” he added. (ANI)
