Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], July 14 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as the Central Government approved the first instalment of a Special Assistance Loan worth Rs 451.63 crore for capital investment in Uttarakhand.

According to a press release, the Chief Minister said that under the leadership of the Prime Minister, the Central Government has consistently played a supportive role in Uttarakhand’s development. He stated that the financial assistance will provide a significant boost to the state’s infrastructure projects and help ensure the timely implementation of road, healthcare, education, drinking water, tourism, and other development works.

Dhami further said that the State Government will utilise the funds in accordance with the Government of India’s guidelines, ensuring complete transparency and quality in the execution of public welfare-oriented capital projects, thereby strengthening Uttarakhand’s overall and sustainable development.

Notably, the Central Government has extended substantial financial assistance to accelerate infrastructure and capital development works in Uttarakhand. Under the Ministry of Finance’s Department of Expenditure, the state has been sanctioned the first instalment of Rs 451.63 crore (Rs 45,163 lakh) as a Special Assistance Loan under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) 2026-27, said the release.

According to the sanction order issued by the Department of Expenditure, the amount has been released under Part-I (Untied) of the scheme for the implementation of approved capital projects in the state.

As per the release, the Government of India has directed that the funds be utilised strictly in accordance with the scheme guidelines by March 31, 2027, for approved capital expenditure projects.

The Ministry of Finance has also stated that the Uttarakhand Government will have to reallocate the unspent amount of Rs 53.27 crore from the 2025-26 scheme to approved capital projects under the 2026-27 scheme. This amount has been adjusted against the first instalment.

The Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment provides interest-free special assistance loans to states to accelerate infrastructure development, including roads, bridges, drinking water supply, healthcare, education, tourism, and other public infrastructure projects.

The financial support is expected to expedite the implementation of development projects in Uttarakhand while contributing to the state’s overall economic growth and employment generation. (ANI)
