New Delhi [India], August 18 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged that party MLA Kuldeep Kumar was “kidnapped” from his residence early in the morning amid a protest over the alleged murder of a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) sanitation worker in Kalyanpuri.
In a post on X, Bharadwaj alleged that around 20 people from Delhi in plain clothes arrived at around 4 am and took Kuldeep Kumar to an undisclosed location.
Bharadwaj said the AAP MLA had been raising the demands of sanitation workers, including compensation for the family of the deceased worker. He alleged that the protesters had sought a meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, but instead of meeting them, the MLA was taken away.
In another post, Bharadwaj said Delhi AAP Vice President and MLA Sanjeev Jha was reaching the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), East, to ascertain Kuldeep Kumar’s whereabouts.
AAP alleged that police were also forcibly carrying out the last rites of the deceased sanitation worker.
According to the allegations, sanitation workers had been sitting in protest for two days following the murder and were demanding Rs 1 crore compensation for the victim’s family.
The party further alleged that the police brought the deceased’s body from the hospital to the family home and were threatening to conduct the cremation immediately.
In a Facebook post, Kuldeep Kumar’s team said supporters should continue the protest until “Anil gets justice” and urged people to reach Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital.
The post alleged that between 30 and 40 people arrived at Kumar’s residence at around 4 am, took him away and removed the DVR of a CCTV camera installed outside the house. The team said it was not known whether those who took the MLA were Delhi Police personnel or others, and claimed that his whereabouts were currently unknown.
The incident follows the alleged killing of 27-year-old Anil Kumar, an MCD sanitation worker, in Delhi’s Kalyanpuri area on August 16.
Anil was carrying out his sanitation duties when he was allegedly attacked with a knife. The accused fled the spot following the incident.
Police reached the location after receiving information and launched an investigation. CCTV footage reportedly captured the alleged stabbing, and investigators are examining the footage and other evidence to trace the accused.
The alleged murder had triggered concern in the locality, while political leaders and the victim’s family called for swift action against those responsible. AAP leaders and sanitation workers have also been demanding compensation for the deceased worker’s family. (ANI)
