New Delhi [India], October 1 (ANI): State-run power producer NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation Limited) generated 117.9 billion units (BU) of electricity during the second quarter of FY 2026-27, up 12.93 per cent from 104.4 BU in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.
The rise in generation is significant as electricity production remains the core operating metric for NTPC, India’s largest integrated power utility.
Coal dispatch by the company also increased sharply during the quarter, rising 28.45 per cent year-on-year to 11.899 million metric tonnes from 9.260 million metric tonnes in Q2 FY26.
Higher coal dispatch can support fuel availability for NTPC’s thermal generation fleet, which continues to account for a major share of the company’s electricity production.
NTPC’s power trading volumes also grew during the quarter. Trading volume increased 22 per cent to 15.06 BU from 12.34 BU in the same quarter last year.
The operational update comes as NTPC continues to expand its generation capacity while diversifying into renewable energy and newer energy businesses.
The company currently has an installed capacity of over 91 gigawatts (GW), with more than 35 GW under construction.
NTPC has set a target of reaching 149 GW of total installed capacity by 2032, including 60 GW from renewable energy sources.
Apart from conventional thermal and hydro power generation, the company has also expanded into solar and wind energy, battery storage, e-mobility, waste-to-energy, nuclear power and green hydrogen.
The latest numbers represent NTPC’s operational performance for the September quarter and are separate from its quarterly financial results, which will provide details on revenue, profitability and other financial indicators. (ANI)
