Washington [US], October 15 (ANI): Madonna marked daughter Lourdes Leon’s 30th birthday with rare family photos, nostalgic videos and an emotional Instagram tribute, reflecting on her dramatic birth and their deep bond.

Pop icon Madonna celebrated her eldest daughter Lourdes Leon’s 30th birthday on Wednesday, October 14, with a heartfelt social media tribute featuring rare throwback photographs and videos spanning her daughter’s life from childhood to adulthood.

The singer also reflected on Lourdes’ dramatic birth, their close relationship and the special connection she described as “Biblical.”

“Happy Birthday My Lolita!” Madonna began her Instagram caption, sharing an emotional message for her daughter, whom she welcomed with former boyfriend and fitness trainer Carlos Leon on October 14, in Los Angeles.

“You came to me in a Dream. A fever dream. A Dream called Life. If I tried to write it all down, I would cry a river of tears,” the singer wrote.

Among the most personal revelations in Madonna’s birthday tribute was her recollection of the complications surrounding Lourdes’ birth.

The singer revealed that after 18 hours of labour and her daughter’s heartbeat slowing down, an emergency Caesarean section became necessary.

“Your chin was tilted up in my birth canal; you were looking for the stars you were stuck. After 18 hours of labour and your heartbeat slowing down, an emergency C-section was the only option,” Madonna wrote.

She also recalled the media attention surrounding the birth, adding, “Did I mention the helicopters and news crews swirling above our heads on the top floor of the hospital in East LA?”

“[Your] birth was dramatic. Like our lives,” she continued.

Reflecting on the bond she shares with Lourdes, Madonna described their connection as “Biblical”. She wrote that whenever she asks God to explain their relationship, “He tells me- Look in the mirror!”

“We are Two side sides of the same coin. If what we risk reveals what we value then I would risk it all on you,” she added.

The singer concluded her birthday message with an affectionate reminder for Lourdes to remain connected to her identity and roots.

“Never forget who you are- Little Star, shining brighter than all the stars in the sky,” Madonna wrote, adding, “Never forget how to Dream Butterfly. Never forget where you come from. From Love.”

The reference to “Little Star” carries particular significance for the mother and daughter. Madonna wrote the song for Lourdes and included it on her 1998 album ‘Ray of Light.’

Over the years, Lourdes has built her own career in fashion and music, establishing an identity beyond her famous surname.

She has worked with brands including Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty, Burberry, Marc Jacobs, Swarovski and Mugler, and has appeared in publications such as Vogue and Vanity Fair.

She made her musical debut with the release of her single “Lock&Key” in August 2022.

Lourdes has also spoken openly about growing up with one of the world’s most recognisable pop stars as her mother.

In a 2021 interview with Interview magazine, as cited by People magazine, she reflected on how her understanding of Madonna’s influence evolved with age.

“I didn’t fully comprehend that until I realised the importance of empowerment and what it means to be a woman,” she said.

“She’s probably the hardest worker I’ve ever seen. I didn’t inherit that, unfortunately. I inherited her control issues, but not her work ethic!” she added.

The birthday tribute comes after the mother and daughter recently explored their relationship through music.

In June 2026, Madonna revealed in a cover story for Interview magazine that Lourdes had approached her with the idea of writing a song together as a way to work on their relationship.

“She approached me about writing a song together as a way to heal our relationship,” Madonna said.

The collaboration resulted in “The Test”, a track on Madonna’s album Confession II, released in July 2026.

The song features both women sharing their perspectives on their relationship and the experience of growing up in the public eye.

The musical collaboration adds another chapter to their evolving relationship, which Madonna’s birthday message celebrated through memories, personal reflections and an expression of enduring affection.

Besides Lourdes, Madonna is a mother to son Rocco Ritchie, whom she shares with filmmaker Guy Ritchie, as well as David Banda, Mercy James and twins Stella and Estere. (ANI)
