Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], October 13 (ANI): Congress MP Imran Masood on Tuesday mounted a fierce defence of Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, saying that the ongoing agitations against the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar and the Election Commission of India (ECI) are a “storm” driven by the public outrage.
“This is a Rahul Gandhi storm; they will be blown away, and yesterday’s protest demonstrated the extent of public outrage,” he said.
Masood dismissed the defects in the writ petition filed by Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and nine other INDIA bloc leaders against the ECI’s decisions in the Supreme Court.
“The paperwork has just begun; let it move forward a few steps,” he said.
Further, the Congress leader added, “The Supreme Court is the guardian of the Constitution, and they have ruined the entire electoral process. We have filed a petition in the Supreme Court. We will fight this battle on all fronts.”
The remarks come after INDIA bloc leaders and supporters, led by Rahul Gandhi, marched through Barakhamba Road towards the Supreme Court, following which 11 opposition leaders filed a petition in the apex court challenging the Election Commission’s decisions relating to the SIR of electoral rolls on Monday.
Meanwhile, key Congress leaders including Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress MPs KC Venugopal, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Shashi Tharoor, along with other Opposition leaders, convened a high-tea meeting at the residence of Rahul Gandhi to foster opposition unity amid the ongoing agitation.
The gathering is being viewed as a strategic move by the opposition bloc to consolidate its position and discuss a unified roadmap ahead of the upcoming parliamentary sessions.
The meeting has also fueled speculation about the Opposition’s strategy in the coming days, with Congress leaders signalling an intensification of their movement against the Centre. (ANI)
