Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], October 12 (ANI): Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Monday questioned the Congress’s move to seek an appointment with the Chief Justice of India (CJI) over political issues, asking whether the party was following the appropriate protocol and accusing it of attempting to damage the country’s democratic system.
“To meet the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, how can they seek an appointment with the CJI for these kinds of political issues? What is going on in Congress? They should know the protocol, whether they know it or not. How can they separately seek an appointment with the CJI? What is the issue? Are they trying to disturb the country?” Kumaraswamy said.
Referring to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the Union Minister stated that the Congress was unnecessarily raising the issue and wasting its time through protests in Delhi.
“These people are unnecessarily making a big noise about SIR. What they are doing in Delhi is simply wasting their time to damage this democratic system,” he said.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, Karnataka BJP president BY Vijayendra also criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, saying that as the Leader of the Opposition, he should understand the implications of seeking an appointment with the CJI when the matter was sub judice.
“Being a leader of the opposition, Rahul Gandhi should know what he is trying to do. When the matter is sub judice, how can the Chief Justice of this country give an appointment? This is a basic thing which he needs to understand,” Vijayendra said.
Vijayendra accused the Congress of spreading what he described as false information against constitutional institutions, including the Election Commission and the Chief Justice of India.
“By doing this, trying to spread false information against the constitutional bodies, against the Election Commission of this country, against the Supreme Court Chief Justice, this is totally incorrect. I really feel pity for Rahul Gandhi. We really don’t know who is guiding Rahul Gandhi,” he said.
The BJP leader further said he did not believe the judiciary would be influenced by the Congress’s actions, while urging Rahul Gandhi to respect the dignity of the Supreme Court and other constitutional authorities.
“I don’t think the judiciary will be influenced by such drama by the Congress party. But at the same time, Rahul Gandhi should understand the dignity of the Supreme Court and other constitutional authorities,” Vijayendra said.
He also accused the Congress of attempting to create unrest by mobilising young people and disturbing peace and harmony in the country.
“They’re only trying to create anarchy in the country. By instigating youths of this country, they’re trying to disturb the peace and harmony,” he said. (ANI)
