Chikkodi (Karnataka) [India], October 7 (ANI): Karnataka Minister Lakshman Savadi on Wednesday said the state Cabinet had discussed the issue of increasing milk prices but deferred a decision as the Model Code of Conduct is currently in force.
Speaking to the media in Athani town of Belagavi district, Savadi said the state government would approach the Election Commission seeking permission to take a decision on the matter.
“The issue of increasing milk prices was discussed in yesterday’s Cabinet meeting. However, the decision has been kept on hold as the Model Code of Conduct is currently in force. A letter will be written to the Election Commission seeking its approval,” Savadi said.
He said that if the Election Commission grants permission, the matter would be placed before the Cabinet again and a decision would subsequently be announced.
“If approval is not obtained, the final decision on the increase in milk prices will be taken after the Model Code of Conduct is completed,” he said.
Savadi also responded to Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s recent advice to ministers and officials to remain cautious in view of sting operations and allegations being raised against members of the government.
The minister alleged that opposition parties were attempting to create circumstances in which MLAs, ministers and government officials could be implicated.
“The opposition parties are weaving a web of deceit to implicate MLAs, ministers and officials,” Savadi alleged.
He said the Chief Minister had advised ministers and officials to conduct themselves honestly and cautiously while carrying out their responsibilities.
“In this context, the Chief Minister has guided all ministers and officials to act honestly, cautiously and provide good governance to the public,” Savadi said.
Savadi’s remarks come amid political exchanges in Karnataka over alleged sting operations and the conduct of public representatives and officials. The Model Code of Conduct is also currently applicable in the state, restricting government decisions and announcements that could influence the electoral process. (ANI)
