
New Delhi [India], September 8 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid tribute to legendary singer, musician and cultural icon Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his 100th birth anniversary, recalling his contribution to Indian music and his role in taking the spirit of Assam and the Northeast to audiences across the country.
In a post on X, PM Modi said Hazarika’s voice carried the soul of Assam and the spirit of the Northeast to the entire nation.
“On his 100th birth anniversary, remembering the legendary Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Ji. His voice carried the soul of Assam and the spirit of the Northeast to the entire nation,” PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister said Hazarika beautifully gave expression through his music to the thoughts and spirit of countless people.
“Through his music he beautifully gave expression to the thoughts and spirit of countless people. His songs brought people closer,” he added.
PM Modi also recalled attending the launch of Hazarika’s birth centenary celebrations in Guwahati last year.
“I warmly recall attending the start of his birth centenary celebrations in Guwahati last year,” the Prime Minister said.

He said Hazarika’s life and work would continue to inspire generations. “Bhupen Da’s life and work will continue to inspire generations,” PM Modi wrote in his tribute.
Dr Bhupen Hazarika, widely remembered as the “Bard of the Brahmaputra”, made a lasting contribution to Indian music and culture through his songs and compositions. His work reflected the culture, people and aspirations of Assam while connecting with audiences across linguistic and geographical boundaries.
On his 100th birth anniversary, tributes have been pouring in to remember the legendary artiste and celebrate his enduring contribution to music and the cultural heritage of Assam and the Northeast. (ANI)
