Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], August 22 (ANI): Rescue authorities have retrieved two bodies from the debris after an under-construction building collapsed in Hyderabad, an official said.
The topmost floor landed on the floor of the neighbouring building, an NDRF official said, adding that labourers were working there when the incident took place.
HYDRA Commissioner AV Ranganath said that the building was built on a “Nala”.
Speaking to ANI, Ranganath said, “A building which has 7+1, almost an 8-storey building constructed on about 60 square yards of land. It came down this afternoon, and two bodies were retrieved. The building that came down was built on a ‘nala ‘, and I don’t think they would have gotten any permissions. We’ll verify all those, and we’ll definitely we’ll see that the buildings which are unauthorised or built on the Nala will be demolished here. The culprit, Sajid, is in the habit of constructing such unauthorised buildings. We’ll try to work out where all he has built such things; also, we’ll find out the details”, he said.
Damodhar Singh, DY Commandant, NDRF 10 Battalion, said that an “unauthorised” building caved in and that a portion fell into an adjacent building.
“An unauthorised building–under the jurisdiction of the Madhapur Police Station–collapsed, and a portion of it fell onto the adjacent building. It was a seven-story structure; following the collapse, the topmost floor landed on the floor of the neighbouring building. Essentially, the floors–from the first through the seventh–collapsed vertically”
“Two deaths have been confirmed, and one person in the building that was struck was injured; that individual was rescued and immediately sent to the hospital. We have conducted searches using both canine units and cameras–multiple times–but so far, no further victims have been detected… It was structurally weak–likely because it was still under construction. Labourers were working there, so there may have been some lapse or structural deficiency”, he told ANI.
The building collapsed in Anjaiah Nagar, Madhapur, here on Saturday, police said.
According to police officials, the rescue operations are currently underway. (ANI)
