New Delhi [India], August 11 (ANI): Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder and actor-politician Kamal Haasan welcomed the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly’s unanimous adoption of two major resolutions, calling for the complete abolition of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and the withdrawal of the proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill.
Describing the development as a positive sign of political alignment on core regional interests, the Rajya Sabha MP commended the state government and participating political parties across ideological spectrums for showing solidarity on state welfare issues.
Expressing his appreciation on X, Haasan noted that the development marks a positive shift in the state’s political realm.
“It is heartening that two resolutions have been unanimously passed in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. The resolutions call for the complete abolition of the NEET entrance exam and the withdrawal of the Foreign Funding Regulation Bill introduced by the Union Government,” he said.
“It is a welcome development that these resolutions have been passed with the unanimous support of all political parties in Tamil Nadu, beyond the BJP,” he added, referring to the single BJP MLA staging a walkout during the discussion on NEET.
Commending the state administration, he added, “Kudos to the Tamil Nadu Government. This trend of unity for the welfare of Tamil Nadu must continue.”
The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution opposing the Centre’s Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, with the state government urging the Union government to withdraw the proposed legislation in its present form.
The resolution was moved by State Minister Rajmohan, who raised concerns over the potential impact of the proposed amendments to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) on educational institutions, hospitals, elderly care homes and other organisations receiving foreign contributions.
The Assembly also passed a resolution against the NEET examination, with the DMK, AIADMK, Congress, PMK, DMDK, left parties and other smaller parties supporting it. The BJP’s lone MLA staged a walkout opposing the move.
Tamil Nadu Health Minister K Arunraj moved the resolution in the Legislative Assembly seeking the abolition of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), stating that the examination is against social justice, equality and the rights of states. (ANI)
