New Delhi [India], August 6 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday issued notice to the Centre and the concerned States on a petition seeking a CBI investigation into an alleged large-scale medical data breach and cyberattack, in which the personal and medical records of more than 1.5 lakh Indian citizens were allegedly transferred to a server based in Singapore.
A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and Justices V. Mohan and Joymalya Bagchi sought responses from the respondents after hearing Senior Advocate K. Parameshwar, appearing for the petitioner.
During the hearing, the Bench observed that offences under the Information Technology Act may require fresh legislative review.
Justice Joymalya Bagchi noted that the Court had earlier requested the Solicitor General of India to examine the need for amendments to the Information Technology Act.
Counsel for the petitioner submitted that complaints regarding the alleged breach had been lodged as early as March 2025, but the police registered an FIR only in August 2025.
It was further submitted that the FIR continues to be registered against unknown persons despite the petitioner allegedly furnishing details regarding the source of the breach and the overseas server to which the data was transferred.
According to the plea, companies promoted by Bessemer Venture Partners–Remedinet Technologies, IHX, Medi Assist and Perfios–were allegedly linked to the incident.
The petition further alleges that sensitive personal information, including Aadhaar details, PAN numbers and medical records of more than 1.5 lakh citizens, was compromised in the alleged breach.
The matter is pending further hearing before the Supreme Court. (ANI)
