New Delhi [India], July 28 (ANI): The Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition seeking removal of Additional DCP Sandeep Lamba from a police inquiry in connection with allegations of slapping a woman during the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar, observing that the entire police force cannot be discredited over the alleged conduct of an individual officer.
Justice Girish Kathpalia, while dismissing the plea, said that the officer concerned would face consequences as per law if found guilty and emphasised that the institution should not be undermined.
The petition was filed by a woman on whose petition the Delhi High Court ordered an inquiry into her alleged illegal detention. She had alleged that she was illegally detained at Jafrabad Police Station on the intervening night of March 24-25, 2025.
The petitioner had alleged that the inquiry was completed without recording her statement. She later submitted that her statement was recorded by the police after the completion of the inquiry.
During the hearing, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Chetan Sharma, appearing for Delhi Police, submitted that the inquiry in the petitioner’s case had already been completed and the report had been forwarded to the competent authority. He argued that the present petition had become infructuous.
The High Court dismissed the petition of Zarnigar after noting the submissions of the ASG.
The High Court rejected the contention of counsel for the petitioner that the alleged action of the police officer arose apprehension in the mind of the Petitioner. The bench remarked that stop discrediting the institution. The officer will face the consequences as per law if found guilty. Should Delhi police stop registration of the FIR, the court asked.
The petitioner had sought a direction to the Commissioner of Police to transfer the inquiry to another Deputy Commissioner of Police posted outside the North East District of Delhi. (ANI)
