New Delhi [India], July 23 (ANI): Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Ram Gopal Yadav, hitting out at the Centre over the recurring issue of recruitment exam paper leaks, demanded a ‘white paper’ on the number of such incidents that have occurred during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tenure.
The senior SP leader’s remarks came in response to PM Modi’s recent tweet regarding the setting up of fast-track courts to ensure stringent punishment for those involved in paper leaks.
Speaking to ANI, Ram Gopal Yadav questioned the timing of the government’s intent, asking if the recent paper leak was an isolated incident.
“Was this the first leak that happened? There should be a white paper on how many leaks have occurred during his (PM Modi’s) tenure. How many people were prosecuted, how many were punished, how many went to jail, how many sentences were awarded? Nothing has been done so far,” Yadav said.
The SP MP further criticised the government’s reliance on fast-track courts, suggesting that the lack of past action undermines the current promises of “stringent punishment.”
Amid intensifying protests against the Centre over the NEET paper leak issue, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday emphasised the importance of the youth’s future, announcing that fast-track courts will be set up to ensure swift and stringent punishment for those involved in paper leaks.
In a post on X, PM Modi stated that those involved in compromising the future of the youth “will not be spared,” adding that relevant authorities have been directed to take all necessary measures.
“Nothing is more important than the welfare and future of our youth! We have decided to set up fast-track courts to ensure swift and stringent punishment for those involved in paper leaks. Have directed the concerned authorities and officials to take all necessary steps in this regard. This continues our series of steps for safeguarding the interests of students. Those who try to harm the future of our youth will not be spared,” PM Modi wrote.
Meanwhile, Ram Gopal Yadav, addressing a press conference held by BJP leader JP Nadda–where the latter reportedly pointed toward irregularities during previous regimes–dismissed the logic of comparing current failures with the past.
“Suppose we committed a murder somewhere, does that authorise them to murder as well? If something happened 50 years ago, will it happen now too? This isn’t logic,” Yadav asserted.
Emphasising the accountability of the ruling dispensation, he added, “You are in power. The public demands answers from you. In a democracy, we are accountable to the public and the public is demanding it.” (ANI)
