New Delhi [India], July 23 (ANI): CPI(M) leader John Brittas has condemned police action on protestors in the national capital on Monday during their march to Parliament against paper leaks and other issues in education sector and demanded resignation Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
He said the government highlights India as “mother of democracy” but “they have beaten up the children of this democracy”
“We want action from the government. We have been demanding the resignation of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. After the incident the day before yesterday, Union Minister Amit Shah must also put in his papers. It was a brutal assault on the children of this country. The Prime Minister, whenever he goes abroad, says that India is the mother of democracy. But they have beaten up the children of this democracy,” he said.
Brittas also said that he and other MPs met activist Sonam Wangchuk at the hospital and urged him to end his fast.
“We met Sonam Wangchuk at the hospital. We submitted a representation signed by 20 MPs, requesting him to break his fast. His life is precious to us, and we want him to live longer so that he can continue leading many important battles.”
CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat also criticised the government’s handling of the Cockroach Janata Party protest and alleged that it was not engaging in proper dialogue with the students.
“Government is not engaging in proper dialogue with students. They are the future of this country. This is the arrogance of the government,” Karat said.
Delhi Police has registered as many as 10 FIRs in connection with the violence during protest on Monday in the national capital.
Officials stated that four FIRs were registered at the Parliament Street police station while three were lodged at the Connaught Place police station. One FIR each has been registered at the Mandir Marg, Barakhamba Road, and Kartavya Path police stations, respectively.
The police noted that these FIRs pertain to different incidents and matters related to the maintenance of public order during the protest period. Investigations into all the registered cases are currently underway to determine further action. (ANI)
