New Delhi [India], July 7 (ANI): The Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested Ansh Pratap Singh, the accused driver in the Mercedes hit-and-run case that claimed the life of a scooty rider near Jahangirpuri Bus Stand on the Outer Ring Road on July 5.

The deceased was identified as Deepak, a resident of Mangolpuri.

According to the Delhi Police, the fatal accident took place on July 5 near the Foot Over Bridge at Jahangirpuri Bus Stand on the Outer Ring Road (GTK Bypass towards ISBT). Police received information about the road accident, following which the injured scooty rider was found at the spot and was declared brought dead at BJRM Hospital.

During the investigation, police found that a Mercedes car had allegedly hit the scooty and fled from the spot. The vehicle was later traced, and after issuing a notice under Section 133 of the Motor Vehicles Act to the registered owner, police identified Ansh Pratap Singh as the person driving the car at the time of the accident.

The Delhi Police said that an FIR has been registered at Jahangirpuri Police Station and the accused driver has been arrested.

Meanwhile, the wife of the deceased, Geeta, demanded strict action against the accused. She said, “I just want justice. He (accused Ansh Pratap Singh) should not get bail. I request the government to help us.”

In another road accident reported from Jaipur, three children were killed, and their parents were critically injured after a speeding trailer struck the family on the Ajmer Road Highway near the 200 Feet Bypass in Jaipur on Tuesday morning, police said.

The incident occurred around 8:45 AM to 9:00 AM in front of a hotel on the main Delhi-Ajmer Highway, when a trailer heading from Jaipur towards Ajmer allegedly went out of control.

According to police, the family of five, a husband, wife and their three children, were standing by the roadside, waiting for public transport near the 200 Feet Bypass square, when the trailer ran off and crushed them. The vehicle then crashed into the roadside railing. “The trailer was coming from the highway and hit the children who were standing at the bus stop. Three children died on the spot, and four others were injured, including the parents. Both of the mother’s legs were broken,” Traffic Police Officer Puniram Meena told ANI.

While speaking to ANI, Surendra Singh, ACP, Sodala, Jaipur Police Commissionerate, said, “Some family members were sitting by the side of this road. A trailer came and ran them over; the bodies of three children were recovered, and two injured individuals have been sent to the hospital.” (ANI)
