Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], July 2 (ANI): Lieutenant General Mohit Malhotra assumed command of the Indian Army’s South Western Command, which is headquartered in Jaipur, on Thursday.

According to a press release issued by PRO Defence Rajasthan, Lt Gen Malhotra was commissioned into the 47 Armoured Regiment in June 1989 and brings more than 37 years of service across command, staff and instructional appointments. Before taking over the new role, he served as the Chief of Staff at Headquarters Eastern Command, where he contributed to operational preparedness, organisational effectiveness and institutional cohesion.

His command experience includes service in some of the Army’s most challenging operational areas, including the Siachen Glacier. He has also commanded an Armoured Regiment, an Independent Armoured Brigade, an Armoured Division and the Desert Corps, gaining extensive experience in operational planning and multi-domain operations across different theatres.

Apart from command appointments, Lt Gen Malhotra has served in key staff roles covering operational planning, military intelligence, operational logistics, personnel management, technology absorption and strategic communications.

A scholar-soldier of high distinction, Lieutenant General Malhotra holds two Master’s Degrees in Defence Studies, including one from King’s College, London, in addition to two MPhil degrees in Political Science & Defence and Strategic Studies. He has excelled in all his courses, topping almost all the courses he attended. The Lt Gen is a graduate of the Advanced Command and Staff Course in the United Kingdom, the Higher Air Command Course and the National Defence College.

He has earned wide respect as a progressive and forward-looking officer of clear judgement and decisive temperament, committed to capability development, institutional modernisation and innovation. His leadership philosophy is characterised by high operational standards alongside a genuine commitment to the welfare, motivation and professional growth of all ranks under his command.

In recognition of his distinguished service to the Nation, Lieutenant General Mohit Malhotra has been awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and the Sena Medal, in addition to several commendations from Army Commanders and the Chief of Army Staff.

In assuming command of the South Western Command, Lieutenant General Malhotra takes charge at a time of heightened operational significance in the western theatre.

He brings to his responsibilities an established record of operational excellence, strategic clarity and institutional leadership.
